3 Of The Biggest Myths About Dermal Fillers Debunked
While dermal fillers and beauty treatments are becoming ever more popular nowadays, there are a lot of myths and misconceptions out there. Today we aim to clear up three of these common misconceptions and lay down the facts about the use of appearance medicine.
Myth #1: Getting Dermal Fillers Is Painful
While no medical procedure is pain-free, dermal fillers should cause only mild discomfort rather than pain. When administered, most fillers contain a numbing agent that minimises any discomfort a patient might feel, so that only a slight stinging sensation remains – and that too, should fade in a matter of seconds.
Here at The Skin Department, all dermal fillers we use are combined with a numbing agent and injected through a very fine needle or cannula to be minimally invasive. If you do feel nervous about the procedure (there is really no need!) or if you have sensitive skin, a topical anaesthetic can be applied beforehand to numb the area. We also offer a dental block anaesthetic for complete numbing effect, so no matter if you’re after chin fillers, cheek fillers, or dermal fillers under the eyes, we promise the procedure to be as comfortable as possible!
Myth #2: Fillers Always Look Fake
Not when done correctly! When performed by an experienced professional, dermal filler can be subtle and look natural, too. Relying on an experienced professional or a cosmetic nurse who can recommend treatments to complement your facial features correctly is the best way to ensure a beautiful end result.
This myth is understandable, however, because a poorly done dermal filler will noticeably stand out, while successful treatments blend in and go unnoticed. When treatment is performed right, it will make you look rejuvenated and refreshed and those around you will only notice your confidence and the beautiful results.
Myth #3: If I Don’t Like It, I’ll Be Stuck With It
Scary thought, but false! If you get a dermal filler treatment and are not happy with the results, it can easily be reversed. Most fillers used today are made of hyaluronic acid which is a substance that naturally occurs in the body. By injecting Hyalase, a family of enzymes that breaks up the acid, the dermal filler will be dissolved and be naturally expelled from the body.
At The Skin Department, we are confident that you will love the results of your skin treatment. But, if you do decide that the look isn’t for you, we can easily dissolve it so that the appearance returns to what it was before the treatment.
